Back to the Basics: Keyword Research

One of the most ccrucial activities related to SEO is Keyword Research. It is so pivotal that most SEO experts do as far as to say without good keyword research, any SEO effort is rather pointless. Though it is true that Meta Tags are not the be all and end all of SEO efforts and Ranking, it is still important to have the right keywords for a successful SEO attempt.

The objective and the goal of the game is to basically figure out and narrow down the keywords to the ones that fit your business best. What it is NOT is stuffing every single thing that has words, from you r Meta tags to your content with so many keywords that the person reading can see nothing more, and ending up with higher rankings. It is this process of uncovering and narrowing it down to the ones that fit best which is known as Keyword Research.

When you choose keywords, this is what you should look for:

  • They should be relevant to your site: This just means that don’t randomly choose 20 keywords that are very vaguely related to your business, which do not have a guarantee of doing well. Rather, choose 10 that are extremely relevant to your site and the chances of it doing well are bigger than with the former.
  • Search Volume: You have to remember the Search Volume when you choose a keyword; words with high search volume are the ones that are being actively searched for. Those are the ones you should choose from.
  • Low Competition: Words with Low Competition are those that have less number of search results, which means that your page just get higher and higher

As much time as you may invest in SEO, make sure you invest time enough in Keyword Research, it will certainly be worth it!
