Useful content on your front page is biggest factor that will hold your visitors on your home page. When you are making the home page of any site you have to remember that since it is the first page that your visitor would visit (usually), it is recommended that content that explains what the site is all about, making it relevant to the business you are in and the product that you are selling.

Stay with your topic, don’t keep going off topic in your content, more so on your front page. If your site is selling football equipment, don’t beat around the bush talking about how football is a great sport and about how many people like playing it. This is also considered deviated from the topic, although you are still talking about football, because the site is selling equipment and as much as you may love it, it’s still not about the game itself.

A search box is an essential if you have you are making the site for the benefits of the users. A search box just makes it easier for users to find things on the site. Saving the time of the user is always high on the priority list of the designer.

The Response time of a page is very important in determining whether a visitor will stay on your website. If a page takes too long to load, a user will get frustrated and the possibility of them leaving the site before it gets loaded increases.

Everything you put on the page should be there for a reason. Whatever you put on the page should have a reason of being there. Use this to put interesting images and buttons to direct the visitors to your call-to-action zones.
